Finally got the studio set up!

 Wanna see?

I also found this! My artin bag from like, 10 years ago.

I thought I was sooo hardcore! But the pins do make a cool found-object collage of sorts.

image

Ok, so the Obama pins are relatively new. And I’m not gonna lie, I still listen to most of those bands because the line between hardcore motherfucker and big-big nerd is kinda thin (especially when you’re in your late 20s).

My bulletin board, which has not yet been hung, also kinda functions as a collage.

And from the nick nacks I put up on the high shelf, you’d probably think I was 12.

Anyway, I can’t wait to break the new space in… right after I get my ass to home depot and find some shelf pegs so I can get these boxes of books put up. :o/

Hooray organization!

Boredom at Work

So the other day our floor strip guys came in and I was caught unprepared. 2.5 hours trapped behind the counter with most of my work already done. Luckily I had a few pages from that day’s News and Observer, a pair of scissors, and some scotch tape handy. So this happened:

It was a good way to kill 20 minutes.

Also it was therapeutic as I still don’t have access to my art supplies or a good place to art with them.

Thinking about legally changing my name to Rev. Hoop.

 Any thoughts?

The Good News

I was about 3/4 done with a charcoal portrait of Albert Camus, the existentialist philosopher at the time of the packin and movin. I’m happy he arrived unscathed (he wasn’t spray fixed). Hopefully, by the end of this week I can get into my art stuff and finish him off.

… I fixed his eyes after this photo, but riiiight before packing. I couldn’t let them stay that way.

The Previous Occupants

So we’re in our new place which is a foreclosed property in a relatively normal suburban housing development in the middle of Rapeville, NC (at night, I swear I can hear banjos still a-pluckin’). Story about the previous family that lived here goes: Wife and kids left dad due to alcoholism - dad proceeded to let the house go to hell - bank takes property away - we buy property fo’ cheap and are left with small windows into the lives of the previous occupants because nobody cleaned the place out.

 1. The kids loved Scooby Doo. There were scooby products all over the bathroom, and even a scooby themed room (which was promptly painted before I even thought about taking pictures).

 2. Dad hid his alcohol in the crawlspace under the house. He liked cheap Vodka.

 3. And then there’s this: While cleaning the room which is to become the new studio I came across several discarded items lining a shelf which was gorilla glued all along the top of the walls.

I guess this used to be a child’s play room. Note the He-Man arm, the piece of Hot Wheels track, the lincoln log, and a dried-up orange play doh wad. But more awesomely, I guess someone was a model train enthusiast (the fake grass stuff was everywhere as well). Wait - what’s this? Free power strip and small extension cord?! Score!!

Hey wait… is that Ben Savage, the-less-talented-yet-more-famous-brother-of-Fred-Savage-star-of-The-Wonder-Years, on the cover of that casette?

image

You bet your motherfucking ass it is!

Okay, For Real This Time...

Ok, so this time I’m actually moving. Time to pack up my toys and try to expedite the process of setting up my new studio space so I can get back to making things daily.

 Imma miss these guys.
